Our longest-lived Shiraz proudly carries the Black Hinge label, a wine only crafted in exceptional years. Nature decides when the vintage is worthy, ensuring every release meets the power, richness, and balance we demand. The 2020 vintage delivered rich, deeply coloured, and intensely concentrated wines, thanks to a very low-yielding drought year. This Shiraz shows terrific structure, dense and vibrant,  bursting with spice and berry fruit, and finishing with a luscious, lingering mouthfeel in every sip.

A wine of depth and longevity, it will reward you with exceptional drinking pleasure for at least the next decade.

Tasting Notes

Entirely produced from vines grown at Pindarie. The Black Hinge Shiraz for the 2020 vintage was selected from the lower section of "Tony's Block Shiraz”, on our famous Terra rossa soils. Growing on sloping aspects gives us the flexibility as to where we select the grapes in accordance with the season, and allows for creative diversity in winemaking. Every season is different!

Vintage 2020 was one of the quickest and lowest yielding vintages on record due to the end of what was a two year drought period. Early ripening and dry conditions produced small berries, resulting in a deeply coloured batch of fruit with strong tannins and intense flavour.

The final wine has terrific structure (underpinned by strong tannin and balanced acidity) with a 16-month long sleep in high quality French Oak. It is concentrated, dense, rich in spices, and berry fruits leaving you with a luscious lingering mouth feel from every sip. It will reward the consumer with drinking pleasure for at least a decade.
