Source: Entirely produced from vines grown at Pindarie. The Tempranillo is grown on shallow rocky limestone soil to enhance concentration. The Sangiovese is grown on an easterly facing slope consisting of red brown earth and limestone.
Winemaking: The Tempranillo was co-fermented with Sangiovese from the vineyard in small fermenters and later blended with 5% Shiraz. This wine spent only 9 months in aged French oak to ensure upfront fruit flavour and soft, but drying ‘savoury’ tannins. Special care is taken not to over oak the wine to maintain varietal fruit integrity. Depending on the vintage, the wine may remain in oak as little as 6 months or up to 10 months.
Cellaring: Now until 2015
Style: Medium to light bodied. Our thinking, as we bring together Spanish, Italian and French varieties, is the attraction of a Mediterranean blend. The alluring aromas of black cherries entice you from the start. This aromatic wine abounds in the palate and combines with elegantly refined tannins.
Cuisine matching: Of course an ideal dish evokes southern France, Tuscany or Spain, rich in herbs, olive oil and tomato, but “Bar Rossa” is really a great Mediterranean all-rounder.
